Mr. Bastian is a career reservoir engineer with over 30 years of industry experience, and is currently President of Mosaic Petroleum Analytics LLC,  where he is focused on the development of workflows and evaluation methodologies to support MPA's initiatives. At Unconventional Resources, LLC, Mr. Bastian was part of the team to develop a 70,000 acre position in the Montney play in northeast British Columbia, Canada, before being purchased by Painted Pony Energy in May 2017. 


Since 2001, Mr. Bastian has been actively involved in the exploration for and development of unconventional gas reservoirs in North America, including the discovery and development of Canada’s first coalbed methane (CBM) play, the Horseshoe Canyon CBM play in Alberta, Canada, with MGV Energy. Prior to this, Mr. Bastian was a reservoir engineering consultant and manager for Schlumberger’s Data and Consulting Services, and at S. A. Holditch and Associates, Inc. (which was acquired by Schlumberger in 1997), where he specialized in integrated reservoir studies, reservoir engineering and characterization, and numerical reservoir simulation (application and software development).


Mr. Bastian has been actively involved in the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) for most of his career, having served on numerous SPE technical and program committees, including the Distinguished Lecturer Selection Committee. In addition to his duties at MPA, Mr. Bastian is also a Professor of Engineering Practice in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, in College Station, Texas, where he teaches a senior-level Capstone Design course on unconventional asset development.
