Prior to joining MP Analytics Ltd., Mr. Chow was President of Unconventional Gas Resources Canada and UGR Blair Creek Ltd. (UGR) until the company was sold to Painted Pony Energy (TSX: PONY) in May 2017. UGR built a world class Montney position in NE British Columbia with over 27 Tcfe of resource in place and over 2 TCF of proven and probable reserves. Mr. Chow also served for several years as the President, Chairman and the Past Chairman of the Canadian Society for Unconventional Gas (CSUG), now the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources (CSUR) receiving the Sproule Achievement Award in 2009. In 1984, he earned his Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Geophysics from the University of Alberta and won the APEGGA Gold Medal in Geophysics. Subsequently in 1994, he earned his MBA from the University of Calgary and was named to the Dean’s List.
Mr. Chow started his career at PanCanadian Petroleum as a Geophysicist where he was involved in numerous Oil and Gas exploration and development programs drilling over 175 wells and discovering over 70 MMBOE. He also spent several years in Corporate Planning, Strategic Planning and Commercial Ventures and Land. In 2001, Mr. Chow was appointed to the position of New Ventures Manager working primarily on Coalbed Methane. He led PanCanadian through an important joint venture with MGV Energy (later acquired by Quicksilver Resources, Inc.) to secure the industry’s first commercial CBM production in Canada which resulted in over 3 TCF of resource for PanCanadian. Mr. Chow’s area of responsibility shifted to Coalbed Methane for Alberta when the PanCanadian and AEC merger formed EnCana. He received a President’s bonus award at EnCana.
In 2003, he joined CDX Canada, Co. as the Vice President of New Ventures. CDX later established the first commercial horizontal CBM well in Canada. Mr. Chow was promoted to Executive Vice-President two years later. He led the process to sell CDX’s Canadian assets in 2007. Mr. Chow joined UGR from its inception in 2007 as President and focused on unconventional oil and gas plays until the company was sold.
